Where have you been?
I have been at work.
I haven’t been riding in weeks. Or so it seems.
I setup my wife’s bike on a stand for practicing in the basement. It is not the same, but I still don’t feel comfortable riding my roads when it is pitch black. As previously mentioned, I need to make myself more visible, but I am seriously lacking in the funds department.
Boy do I miss riding around.

I just put relective stickers on my bike. I also have a cheap flashing rear led because I beleive it’s beter to be seen. I”m guessing 202-53 have enough light to get by. Likewise, I have not been riding much. It’s hard to get motivated with the colder weather. I think I will try and give it a go today and ride home.

Good idea on the reflective stickers.
I have the rear and forward LED lights. Maybe I’ll work up the nerve next week. Though I get up, it’s dark. I leave work, it’s dark.

I rode home last night. Being seen was not the problem. Being cold was. Living in the hills of Denville, It was an uphill battle and I thought that would keep me warm. Nope. My feet, fingers and head were cold. I Rode to work this morning and put on my hunters ski mask, regular thick gloves and wool socks. That helped a lot. I think lots of layers is the trick. I never rode with a winter jacket. I may try it on my next ride. I also realized how out of shape I’m in.

Sweet, I live in Denville too! It is possible we’ve passed each other this year.
What section of Denville? I’m in Indian Lake and I usually take 53 down to Morris Plains and then 202 up to my work.

I’m at the very southern tip of Denville. In the mornings I take Union Hill (killer hill) down into Morris Plains and am on 202 North until Malipardus. I work in East Hanover. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve crossed paths. On the way home in nice weather, I take the long way home via Madison-Great Swamp-Jockey Hollow-Mendham-Randolph-Denville. My wife works on the corner of 10 and 202 by the Weichert, and she started comuting, but only in nice weather. I’ve read your whole comuter blog and love it. Here is my email. pelter at aol dot com. Maybe we can get in a little ride one weekend weather permiting. Are you going to the critical mass ride in Morristown on the 26th? The last one looked like a lot of fun.

Union Hill. Why I do believe I’ve ridden that once. Ugh. I posted about it before when I failed miserably. If I take that route home, I usually avoid that hill for another hill that isn’t quite as deadly that finally gets me onto Franklin.
I work real close to your wife. I usually walk to the Stop & Shop for lunch.

Oh, not sure about the CM on the 26th. They are all cool people, but the Holidays are usually tough for me to get out. You never know, though. Maybe a santa hat would be in order with the LED Christmas lights.

Union Hill is a killer(especially if I choose to take my road bike which has terrible gearing for hills). Sometimes I take Old Dover and go up Zeek Rd for a better graded hill. It adds 2 miles to the trip but I find it worth it when I need an easier option. No matter which way I go, I have no other way to get home than up. Anyway, let me know if you ever want to get in a ride. I don’t care if it’s 5 miles or 50. If we do, I think we should meet at that bagle shop by you. What a great way to start off a ride with a taylor ham egg and cheese on a bagel?!

I’d be in for a ride, though I’ll be the first to admit that I’m slow, so don’t let me hang you back. I ride a Specialized Hardrock with fatty tires. I haven’t reached the 50 mile range yet, but this is a goal of mine! 5 or 10 would be cool the first ride.

I’m not very crafty, but check out these lights someone made for their xtracycle. Seems like you need a good headlight to see what’s in the road at night, but you could really light up your bike if you can figure out how to put stuff together.
